programs to help move? also, UK ancestry question.

Post Thu Nov 24, 2011 3:13 am

Hi guys.

If you can, or can't tell, I just joined this site after it kept popping up in my constant google searches about moving abroad to england.

I finally caved in after a year of trying to plan this entire thing by myself and decided to look for some programs to help canadians move abroad.
the only (helpful) ones i found were swap.ca, and the global work & travel co.
So my first question is - does anyone know of programs like these that help people move? the fees for these programs are $700CAD and $1400CAD, which when you think of it, is a bit high.
You don't get anything out of them really, except the $1400 program does offer a full time pub job.

My second question is about a uk ancestry visa.
I do meet the requirements for one of these, except I came across a posting about sufficient funds for this, and I saw someone ask about how much money you needed in your bank account and how long it had to be in there.
Now, all this time i thought you just needed to be able to "support yourself without access to public funds", but do you actually need a specific amount in your bank account for a specific time?

I'm stressin' out! So anything would be helpful

first part of your question about the visa service companies - there are hundreds of them around that charge a fee for something that you cn do yourself quite easily

As for a gurantee of a job - I would be very suspicious, after all, there are no guarantees in life

For the second part of your question - there is lots posted & available on these threads as well as on the UBA website under the youth mobility visa (YMS).

One poster on canukabroad did a nice job detailing the steps & what is needed etc

open the link below related to a Q&A to see if this answers your questions in general

Good luck to you

thank you portico, I'll keep looking into programs, I'm still not 100% sure if I need or want the help, even more so at (most of the time) such a heavy fee.

As for the visa part, that link seems to be explaining the step by step process for the youth mobility scheme, and I'm looking for UK ancestry. Specifically if I need $3000 in my account to even apply for one.

oops, lets try this again

It is my understanding that you dont need to have the funds available when applying for the ancestry visa & the reason beng is that you may never go to the UK during the validity of the visa, or delay going over for a period of time

From reading the UKBA site requirements, the proof is requried when you are at the entry point in the UK to show the immigration folks that you have these funds available currently at least 1600 GBP ... bank statement, credit card balance etc. A letter from the bank would also be nice to have.

Also line up an accomodation/address before you go over & on the employment from the UKBA website it states that you dont need to have a job when you enter - but be ready willing & able to show that you intend to work - UKBA policy wrk2.3 - sub-section 2.3.6

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/polic ... k2/wrk2-3/

Remmber the ancetry visa will be vaild while your Canadian passport is vaild. If your Canadian passport expires you'll need to get another visa put in the new passport - but suggest that you carry the expired Canandan passport with the new one
