Proof of Residence (TN)

Post Mon Mar 28, 2011 3:05 am

I am currently living in Singapore, since my spouse in working in Singapore. Will it be a problem to apply for TN, since I don't own or rent a house in Canada? But I do have a bank account in Canada, credit card, Canadian health card and Social Insurance number card.
If no, then what are the documents I have to show from Singapore to show proof of residence or tie ups outside the US. Is it okay to show the lease agreement I signed in Singapore for renting an apartment?

Start date: Is it mandatory for me to apply for TN, just 2 weeks before the mentioned start date in the job offer letter??
Pay - What should be the minimum pay/hr, we have to show for TN?

Thanks

No, it won't be a problem applying for TN. You need to prove your eligibility via your Canadian citizenship and passport. You merely need to prove your citizenship, receipt of a U.S. job offer, and eligibility to qualify under a TN Profession.

You need not worry about showing any ties to Canada. This is only a condition for a B-2 or Tourist Status. TN applicants are not required to show ties to Canada to obtain work authorization.

It is possible to obtain your TN (I-94) approximately 10 days to two weeks before actually starting but this might also depend on the port of entry. However, don't exceed two weeks as a general rule of thumb.

The remuneration can be stated in an hourly rate but make sure you also include an annual salary or risk being declined a TN.
