Thanks for the info.
Hope this pass through by the end of my current TN which is December 2008.
So they have 30 days for people to comment on, then what will happen after?

Anyone has some insight of this?
And how long it really kicks in at the border?
I know snail runs faster than any kind of immigration rule change.

Once they've done the comment period, they consider the comments, then they issue their opinion in relation to the comments, then they make a temporary rule based on their view as amended by any outside information, then they make a permanent rule.

Generally not a quick procedure.

Hey, if you're really desperate to get into the US, there's a new Federal law that federalizes the immigration law on the Northern Mariana Islands and provides for a new guest worker programme! Woohoo! So if making T-shirts on Saipan appeals to you, you're in.

Oh well,
I know this kind of things take super super ultimate long to kick in.
Not so worry about how long it will take as long as it is less than 2-3 yrs from now.
I am more concern whether or not will this even pass through?
The end result after the comment peroid could be, "Due to numerous objections and after careful consideration of the negative impact to our country ." we decide to keep the TN status as 1 yr limit.etc.and abandoned the proposed extension.you can go on for 10 pages with lovely BS reasoning.

I would say there is some chance of that happening. Depends how many people object and how loudly. Remember, you can always comment on the proposed rule yourself.

This is a link to the notice in the Federal Register And it includes a list of contact points of how to comment on the rule - it's dated May 9th, so you have 30 days to comment on it.

Given that it's such a simple change I would have thought it would go through reasonably quickly actually.

The ones I've commented on before have been much more technical. This is more of a clerical change, there's no need for impact assessments and so on.
