Purchasing A Car to leave in Florida

Post Wed Feb 09, 2011 12:19 pm

Hi, I'm looking for some help and advice :D

Does anyone know what is required to buy and leave a car in Florida? We have a holiday home in Ft. Lauderdale and would like to buy a car to leave at our house there.

Do we need to have a Florida Driver's License? We have a valid B.C. Driver's License. If it is possible to buy the car, how would insurance work if we do not have a valid Florida D/L?

Thx in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Hi, I've done something similar moved to GA for job on TN visa, but got a Georgia driver's license. This made getting insurance simpler.. Geico will consider your canadian driver's history if you choose to get a Florida license..

My mom just transfered registration of a car to Florida, without a driver's license.. She went through the insurance company that covers her condo.. that existing relationship came in handy as other companies wanted a Florida driver's license. She did need to request copies of her Canadian driver's license though.. not a big deal at least in Quebec you can request online.. Just they will only mail to your residence on file (Canada).
