I am a Canadian who is engaged to a UK citizen. We are planning to get married in Gibraltar and then go back to CA to start applying for a Marriage Visa. We plan on living in the UK after that.
Basically, I am stressing out about these qualifications because my fiancee is a self-employed artist.....in other words..a starving artist. And I am nervous that he will not be able to meet the qualifications to sponsor me.
I have been through all of the qualifications and was wondering just how much proof and detail is needed.
For example: It states that my partner must provide proof that he is able to support me financially for two years. What kind of proof is needed? Just how much detail is needed in order to prove this? Does he have to prove that he has a permanent job or can he just have the money?
Also....
It states that he has to prove that he has a residence. What kind of proof is needed for this? Does it have to be a residence that he owns, or can he be renting?
I would appreciate any advice that anyone has over these details. And if anyone can add anything or point out something that perhaps I overlooked I would also be grateful.

Just to ask even further....(and be a little cheeky)
Can my partner get a job and prove that he is an employee and then quit after I get the visa??? In other words, just how much "checking" do they do and for how long?
