I have a question, I am a British born citizen, and I’ve been living in Canada with my wife for the past 4 years. She is Canadian; I also have two Canadian step kids. I want to take them back to the UK with me to live permanently, however, we are worried, we don’t have much money, and between the flights and their visas it will clean us out.

I am returning to accept a job offer, I also do part time work online so I have a little income (about 250 pounds a month from that) and I also have my uncle acting as a co-sponsor and we will have adequate accommodation from him (it’s a big house plenty of room), until we find our own place. We have all the paperwork we think we will need.

I just want to know what your experiences with the British High Commission in Ottawa have been like, I am hoping they are not heard to deal with, I will be heartbroken if I have to go to the UK and spend too much time away from my family?

Regarding my experience with the British High Commission in Ottawa, I am Canadian and got married to my British husband in Canada. We then went to get my visa sorted out in Ottawa and I can say that I had no problems whatsoever with the whole process. We had to line up for a while (this was back in 1997) and then present our documents along with the processing fee. My husband had brought along all the required paperwork (including pay slips, etc.) and the whole process was finished in less than an hour (plus waiting time!). I have to say the process was a whole lot easier than my experiences here in the UK with immigration!!
All the best with your move back!
