Question regarding entry to US prior to TN application

Post Fri Feb 04, 2011 3:46 pm

Ok this may be an odd question, but here goes:

First the preamble...
I'm a Canadian citizen living in Canada. My girlfriend is a US citizen living in the US. My intention is to move to where she is. Fortunately, I meet/exceed all the educational/experience requirements to get a job as a graphic designer under the TN. So, I'm currently in the process of prepping my resume and portfolio to start looking for work.

I'm very leery of doing anything that can jeopardize my TN application when it comes time. That being said, I've been crossing somewhat regularly to visit my gf. I know that I'm not legally able to job hunt while in the US, so I don't. My visits there are purely to see her and spend time together. My question is... is it looked upon unfavorably if I've been crossing the border somewhat frequently (every few weeks) prior to TN application?

When it comes time for interviews, I'll state that at the border... but I suppose my fear is, will the border folks look back when I'm applying for TN, and assume all the previous border crossings were to go job hunting?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Not a worry, as long as you maintain Cdn home until you actually get TN.

how do you think most Cdns get a TN job? They gp to US and find one, incidental to another reason for going, like vacation or business trip. Just like you will do.
