hello hello
my friend and I are leaving in april to go backpacking
all around europe I have some questions that I need help with

1) Ive read that you should bring a sleep sack so that you dont have to pay for linens, is this good enough, wont I need more warmth, I dont really know how sleeping materials work
2) Ive seen like 4 ads on hostel cards and student cards any suggestions on whether or not to get one? I know HI hostels are popular, and do I need something like an International student card to prove I am under 26 or can I just use some other type of i.d.?
3) We plan on working a bit and I know theres a million questions on visas, BUT do Canadians get some type of deal since were commonwealth members, is it that you get the visa for free if you are less than 90 days in the 1 country or less than 90 days throughout all of Europe?
-Is finding temporary (3-4weeks) work hard to do? Because thats what we were hoping for

thanks a lot Im sure I'll have more questions
you guys are super

Hey CarlyBC,

Here are some answers I hope will help :)

1) Don't bother with a sleep sack or sleeping bag. Yes a sack would be fine, but very few hostels ask for it and it's only maybe a couple bucks extra. It's up to you if you think it will be worth carrying around for the odd time you'll use it.

2) I'd get the ISIC or under 26 Youth card. Definitely gets you discounts. A HI membership is a little pricey, but depending on where you're going it might be worth it. If you stay more than say three nights at a HI hostel, then it's probably worth getting the card.

3) No special visa deals! At least not that I'm aware. And a work visa is valid in the country where you get it. IE a work visa for England won't be valid in France. Temporary work isn't easy to find, but it is out there. You'll probably hear of things from other travelers you meet.

Good luck!

Hi CarlyBC,
How was your trip? A friend and I are planning a similar excursion for next summer. If you could share any helpful tips that would be much appreciated? Where did you all go? We are looking at travelling trhough Germany, Chez Rep, Austria, and from north to south in Italy? Are you able to suggest inexpensive, but very good hostels? How did you travel? (train, bus, etc?) Any tips in that regard. We are history and music buffs; do you have any "must see" locations?
Any advice you can give from experience would be much appreciated.
