Questions about TN Status

Post Sat Nov 26, 2011 10:53 pm

Hello everyone, I m new to this board. I have a few questions about the TN status.

I have a job offer from US company (telecommunications industry) . Their immigration lawyer sent me a few documents which I have to take to the border. The job offer ( RF engineer), description, conditions of employment, tax return documents/financial statements of the company for the last few years and so on.

1. Can I drive across to the US through the lewiston or rainbow bridge, apply for the TN and come back immediately to Canada ? I will be traveling to my work place only a week later. Take a bus to buffalo airport and fly from there.

If i apply on my date of travel to the US and the TN is denied, I don't want to lose the ticket fare.

2. The 50 dollars , can I pay in cash at the border ? The lawyer said I have to have a money order payable to DHS. I just want to know if cash is an option.

3. This company will have will have openings for the same position in Toronto, a few months from now and have told me that I can shift back to Toronto. Will I have to mention that to the US customs officer ?

4. On my first trip to the US, will I get into trouble with cbp if I just have a one way air ticket to the place of my work.

Thanks

I applied for the TN visa at the peace bridge two days ago.

I had to wait for 2 hours before my name was called. Then , it took just 15 minutes before I was issued the TN and paid the fee of 56 dollars.

Thanks AGN .

AGN, one more question.

I was issued the TN in the first week of December and I came back to Canada right away , planning to go to the US a few days later.

My company just asked me to postpone my start date to second week of January .

1. So when i travel to the US, will the later start date be an issue for CBP ? TN issued in December 1st week, traveling to work place only by January 12th.

Thanks

No. All it means is that your TN expires dec x, 2014, instead of Jan y, 2015.
You have your TN. Unless your sponsor ends their relationship with you, it remains valid for entry.
