re-entering Canada on a TN visa

Post Sun Apr 06, 2008 3:15 pm

Hi all,

I am a Canadian veterinary student who will be graduating at the end of the month. I have been accepted for a one year internship program at a large private practice in New York City, and will be applying for a TN visa at the Toronto airport on June 16 (hopefully all will go well! o_0). I am just wondering if you are allowed to go back to Canada and re-enter the US during the one year period your TN visa is valid for -- one of my friends is getting married in Vancouver in August, and I would really like to make it. However, I don't want to risk not being allowed back in to the United States. Does anyone know what the re-entry procedures entail exactly? Thanks very much!

I've never had a problem travelling back and forth with the TN. When they issued the TN it had 'multiple'(entries) stamped on the front. All the Canadian side wanted to know was how long I would be home and what I was doing and heading back to the States (Port Huron & Detroit) was nothing more than a cursory glance at my passport and visa after asking my citizenship and place of residence.

I also haven't had any problems going back and forth. The typical routine questions at the border and with having the TN visa it seems to be a little easier coming back into the US because they know you live and work there. Not to worry!
