Hey everyone!

Sorta new here, so bare with me! I'm contemplating on moving back to Canada in 6mos or so, but i was just curious, what are your reasons for moving back? I find it hard to justify going back to Atlantic Canada which has 1/3 the economy the South East of England does.but i just dont want to get stuck here! Smile

Hi Vanessa,

That's an interesting question. I lived in London for 3 years and had to finally decide if I was going to remain in England or go "home". I ended up back in Canada, but to open a company called Classroom Canada - I now help other Canadians move to London to teach. It's the best of both worlds for me as I spend a few months in England and the rest of the time speaking with teachers across Canada about what it's like to teach/live in England. Ironically enough though, I didn't return to my original province of Ontario. Instead, I moved to Victoria, BC. I couldn't deal with the thought of the Ontario winters again and figured rain would suit me well. Now I live a couple of blocks from the ocean, see the Rocky Mountains all the time and love life in Canada again. I do miss England terribly though, but as I said, I get to return often.

In your case, I'd suggest that you look long & hard at what your career would be when returning to Canada. I find that a lot of my teachers return to Canada only to find that the employment situation is still dire, and that they should have stayed in the UK when they had the chance. Would you be returning to Canada to be with family and friends? If so, then yes, of course Atlantic Canada would be great. But if you're returning just to be in Canada, then perhaps you should consider moving to a different part of the country where you may have more options. Just an idea.

Cheers

Hi Victoria,

Thanks so much for the great reply! So nice to hear from the other side! lol

If i were to return to Canada, it would be for 2 main reasons, to be with my family and to start my life with my British partner in Canada. My career could take off here, but it's not an industry where moving forward is easy, but my manager offered to help by using his canadian and american contacts for me. I really dislike England and when im home, i don't miss it, i only miss my independance and my feeling of invisibility here. I come from Cape Breton where everyone knows everyone and if you dont know them, you still might be distant cousins! So basically, everyone knows and judges your business and based on this, i would very much like to move away, but not an ocean away!

The more i think of it, the more my head screams "YES!" so i think im slowly making my decsion. Regardless, any more replies are strongly encouraged for either side of the debate!

Cheers!

Hi both of you,

I am too debating a return to Canada but have no family there and with the current employment climate (or at any time even), prefer to stay in Europe for some more time. The thought of those tough winters in TO is not that exciting and I am going to look at the Vancouver area when I move back. I know it is very very expensive in Vancouver (especially housing) and so so economy.

So Vanessa and Victoria, well done !

I am moving back to Canada because I am tired. I have been here far too long-longer than I ever expected. I hate the weather the gloom and the public transport. I hate how expensive things are and how crowded everything is here. There many MANY other reasons why I want to leave although some are more to do with me personally to be fair. I miss my Uncle, my Grandma my Cosines and Hockey Night in Canada. I miss cold snowy winter mornings and white Christmas' I miss Toronto, I miss North American TV AND Goldfish crackers. I miss Thanksgiving dinners. I miss Canada, I miss home.

Hi Republican,

I can't express how it feels to read what you posted. I feel the exact same way! I try to restrain myself and bite my tongue when it comes to criticizing the UK cuz i know I'll rant and spill out a million negatives, despite the positives i know the UK has and i envy.

If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been here and what part of the UK have you lived in? I blame my negativity on being too close to London. Regardless, thank you for your post and i can 100% sympathize with you.

Cheers
Vanessa

P.S. Although our Canadian winters are a pain, i miss them terribly! I miss SNOW DAYS!

On and off I have been in the UK for about 15 years but I go back to Canada regularly and have worked in other nations. I live in Leicestershire UK. How long have you been in the UK if you don't mind me asking?

Hi Republican,

I dont mind at all! I have been here for nearly 2 years and i live in (cringe!).Slough! The most depressing town in Britian! When i visit my partner in Cumbria in the Lake District, i feel much more at ease about england, but not entirely! I do know that Slough is probably the worst place to live here! lol

Cheers
