Recent emigrant to US taxes implication selling my CDN home

Post Sat Aug 28, 2010 10:51 pm

I just moved to the US on a L1-B visa - I still have a house in Canada which is for sale.

Because I now live in the US and have US income and a US SSN etc- I now a deemed a non-resident of Canada.

If I sell my house in Canada in the next few months, do I have to pay taxes on the sale of the house in Canada but not in the US? The money I make I will transfer here to the US.

Thanks in advance, tried looking this up on the Rev Canada site but got lost in the legal jargon.
