Registering your car in MA

Post Thu Apr 02, 2009 2:57 pm

We just moved to the US and we had my car shipped to the US by a mover. I went to the MA vehicle registration to get a MA license plate and I was told that I must have customs form 3299 (for un-accompanied goods). I contacted my mover and asked for the form. They told me that the US customs collected the form at the border and did not give it back.

Has anyone encountered a similar situation?

Thanks for you help!

You need to talk to CBP, you should be able to do it with other paperwork, such as the release form from them. There's a specific form they issue for imported vehicles that you should have once it's been cleared by them, that's what most States want to see. Strange that MA would ask for the form 3299 as most Canadians import the vehicle themselves.

Some States have a "new car" registration fee which you are exempt from if the car entered as personal effects, remember that one. All you need to do is pay the regular registration fee.
Steve.
