renew passport application got rejected

I mailed my application on 10/05 and didn't hear anything.
Today-12/05, I called the office to track the status and the lady told me it was rejected on 10/07. She told me the reason is written in the letter. However,I didn't receive anything- my original application or letter.
I am worried that the original application package might be lost which include my current passport and ID(citizenship card)

Does anyone have similar experience? I would like to know if the office hold my original application items or they will send them back to me.

I believe they send everything back to you. With the postal system as it is, and it being holiday season, it may take a couple or three weeks to get to you.

I checked with my leasing office this morning and got my original items back which was delivered by DHL a month ago.
Neither DHL or my leasing office informed me that I had a package.
I can't think what would have happened if I didn't call passport office.

anyway, like most people, the reason of being rejected is a tiny shadow on my face.
