Renewal of TN and TD visa ? need Answer

Post Wed Jan 09, 2008 2:28 pm

My TN and My wife and kid visa is going to expire on Feb15, 2008. I am living in Washington, Seattle Area, so USA/Canadian is reachable within 3-hours. Could anybody answer following questions:-

Q1). How many days before we renew our TN and TD visa?

Q2). I am Canadian citizen but my wife is not, her status in Canada as Permanent residence, last time she went to Calgary Embassy (US High commission ) for her TD-visa. where she will go for renewal of her TD-visa (at border / or again in any Embassy )

Q3). My son's is Canadian born citizen(around 3-years) and his Canadian passport will expire on July 2008 .mean when we will go for TD visa process in feb2008, his passport valid for 5-more month. IS it necessary to renew his passport too?.

He will likely need a new passport. I believe that a passport is required to be valid for at least 6 months at the time a visa is issued, and they may even prefer that the passport is valid for the entire term of the visa you're applying for.

I think your real problem is the PR status of your wife, she will lose it if you stay in the US long enough.

I think that depends on how she gained Canadian PR status, but as she is married to a Canadian citizen, if she gained PR through marriage, then she won't lose status as long as she is still married to and living with her Canadian spouse. No matter where in the world they're living. If she wishes to apply for Canadian citizenship, her time out of Canada will not be considered as time toward eligibility though.

This may be different if she gained PR status through some other route, I dunno.

You can go to the border on the same day your I-94 card expires. But your wife needs to apply early with the consulate since there are waiting times. You should therefore renew early.

Q2). I am Canadian citizen but my wife is not, her status in Canada as Permanent residence, last time she went to Calgary Embassy (US High commission ) for her TD-visa. where she will go for renewal of her TD-visa (at border / or again in any Embassy )

She needs to obtain an extension with the Consulate, Canadian landed immigrants are not visa exempt so they have to obtain and renew visas at the consular level.
