"Renewing" a Canadian Passport

Post Thu Sep 16, 2004 8:29 am

Hi all,

Firstly, I wish I'd found this place four years ago when I first moved here! Typical I find it a couple months before I return home to Canada!

The question I have is this - have any of you had the pleasure of renewing your Canadian passport whilst living in the UK? I'm going to have to renew mine before the month is out and not sure what I need to do?! I've looked online but not found a whole lot of clear info - have the forms printed off, but not sure where to go from there! I think I'll need to go to London to do it, but wondering if there's an easier way? Can anyone help?

Thanks a bunch! :)

Hi Kirsten,
firstly welcome to Canuck abroad its nice to meet someone from Waterloo! I used to live there you see.
About renewing your passport I have SO been there! I really dislike the Canadian embassy, the passport office is only open for a few hours per day and it is getting harder to renew it because of documents you need. There is a subject called Canadian High Commission where some helpful person put down a link so that you can download your forms.

Nice to see another Waterloo-ite "on board"! :) Just returned from a visit there last week. Can't believe how quickly it's growing!!

Yeah, the need for a birth certificate is gonna cause me a hassle 'cause I've just recently lost mine in the last move I made. VERY frustrating, to say the least.

Thanks for the heads-up on the High Commission subject - will check it out.

Yeah Waterloo is growing eh? I used to live on Erb street west which back then was like the edge of town, now I'm told its almost the center!
The birth certifcate thing will be hard, I know because I had to get one. You have to get the application forms and then send them to Toronto-assuming you were born in Ontario. Then they'll send you one. It makes it easier if you have any friends/family in Ontario to ask them to do it for you.

I had friends that lived on Erb Street - just down a tiny ways from where University Avenue crosses. I lived on Ridgeview Crescent, just down from Erb, off Fischer Hallman for about a year. I lived in quite a few places in Waterloo though. :)

My parents live in Mount Forest now, so will have the birth certificate stuff done through them as much as possible. Thanks for the tips!

Yeah I moved around Waterloo a bit :) I lived on Needlewood Glenn on Erb st west and went to the now closed Brighton school. Before then I lived in Bellview and went to Lincoln Heights.
I would get you're parents to order the forms for you, the send it to you. From there you can send it to Toronto and they'll send it to you. its not hard-just long and frustrating! :D
