Im pretty sure you can just apply for your new passport as normal. You can pay to get your visa put into your new passport, but you dont need to - you just have to make sure you travel with both passports.

I am still not 100% sure on what to do exactly to renew my passport and visa. But I am going to call the embassy soon.

The Canada house is located in Trafalgar squaure. But from what I know so far, you dont have to go to the embassy to renew. You can do it by post. I think it takes up to 2 weeks to renew as well. But they wont actually let you fly within the 6 months of expiry.nice hey!

Hi - transferring the leave to remain stamp used to be free and done at point of entry to the UK but a few years ago the British govt introduced a charge -£160 by post, £500 in person so it's not worth it. It's perfectly ok to enter the country with both your new and old passport - just a small hassle.

You can get a passport application online - can't post URL but if you Google "canadian high commission +passport applications" it should be the first hit that comes up.

Alternatively, if you live in London, you can pick up a passport application from the Cdn High Commission which is in Grosvenor Square opposite the American Embassy. Also if you live in London the best place to go for that special passport picture (why can't we use pics like the Brits? out of a machine?) go to Passport Photo Service which is on Oxford Street opposite Selfridges. They're inexpensive, been using them for 20 years. They know what they're doing.

I think I know the answer to this question.I just want some confirmation since I can't really find it in writing on a website:

I'm a legal resident of Holland whose passport expires next February. I work in Holland but I'm often sent to our UK office to help out.

There might be an opportunity for a permanent transfer here, so I want to apply for my Ancestry Visa (my husband, although Dutch, cannot move with me right away, so the EEA family permit isn't an option). However, I'll obviously need a new Canadian passport first.

I'm currently at the UK office for next month. As my employer is hoping that I start asap, and I never seem to be in Holland long enough lately to reapply and wait three weeks to get my documents back, is it possible to reapply for my passport at Canada House if I'm just visiting the UK?

Personally, I don't like the idea of being without my present passport while in a foreign country. And, yes, I am aware I'll have to apply for the actual visa in Holland. My employer was just hoping I could get a head's start and not wait a month to begin the entire process.

Thanks.

Okaaay.apparently a visitor can "renew" a Canadian passport. Finally found the info on the website. Whether I can receive it before I return to Holland has yet to be confirmed; I emailed the Powers That Be at Canada House for clarification.
