Hello: Everyone,

I am considering to move to Bermuda, for now it is a very very raw idea. I am aware that the accommodation / rental prices are kind of crazy, but how crazy is crazy?. Am I dreaming if I think I can find a one bedroom apartment for under 1500 per month? And if that is possible, where could I find listings for such places? would that be a total dump? I been looking at classifieds etc etc, and have found NOTHING for under 2500.

thanks

A good estimate is about $1500/per bedroom (this is not a typo).
Check out www.e-moo.com, this is the main site for everything around here.
The problem is that people post rental articles on their company's bulletin boards, these places usually get snapped up within a day or two ~ it's wacky I tell you.
Your best bet is to have your sponsored company put you up (in a short-term apt) for the 1st month, then look like a madman. Also ask your work-mates to send you rental ads via email (as I mentioned above). It's a small island, so the word gets around fast.

One other tactic to try, "housesit" is a term used when people go away on vacation, & would like someone to "watch their place". I've know people to jump around like this (or housesit) for years without actually residing in their own apt.

Forget about buying a house, it's against the law (for ex-pats), plus the average price = $1M (again, no typo).

Here's something to keep you on your toes, http://www.bermuda-online.org/costoflivingguide.htm

Good luck, & lemme know how you make out.

HI. Bum Smile ?
First of all, thank you for your response.
Now.ok, so when you say 1500 per bedroom. do you mean a place where I have to share the rest of the amenities (bathroom / kitchen) with someone else. Or an actual 1bdrm apartment where I can have my privacy, (it can be interpreted both ways). If it is the later, where I can have my privacy, then it is what I am looking for, 1500 doesn't scare me too too much.

I have a phone interview on monday and I think based on that I will have to increase "MY PRICE" from what I had asked initially. So thank you very much for you help.

Just checked the link you sent. Wow yeah 1200 for a bachelor (studio) and 2500 for 1bdrm apartments, 1300 for a room to share in a house with 2 males Hahhahh :S

ok, I definitely need to ask for more salary

thanks

Like I mentioned, you need to seek the inside deals (re: emails). Some executive houses rent for $15K/mo. of course, the company subsidizes those workers.

More salary? It's all relative ~ I read somewhere, a while back, that the average wage is about $55k/yr.
In general, ex-pats get paid a l'il better.

Hi,

I have an interview for a position in Bermuda, one year with annual option to renew. I read that renting a houseboat is a little less expensive, can't find any info on renting houseboats.
