Renting a property in the United States

Post Thu Jan 20, 2011 4:14 pm

I have read through the postings and many of my questions have been answered.
1. I have rented a property in Santa Fe, NM for two months. I am 50, separated, a CDN citizen and recently left my job, enjoying some travel. I rent a home in Canada but my lease is on a month-month basis. I hope this isn't a problem?

2. In 2010 I traveled to NM four times, the last being a trip to secure a rental property. I hope the frequent visits do not create a problem? I love the area and have made a number of friends there. My intention is to vacation while in the US.

3. I will ensure that I bring a copy of the lease for my home in Canada along with utility bills in my name, the rental agreement for the property in NM, but I'm wondering if I should bring some financial information showing that I am secure financially? When I crossed the border to visit Seattle for a workshop in Nov, I experienced difficulty because I wasn't working. When asked how I could retire at such a young age (liked that part) I told them I was financially sound. There were a lot of questions about my finances and I thought they were going to deny me access.

You need to carry, plus what you said, proof of finances.
