I am just about to turn 18 years old, I was born in Canada, and I have been living in the United States for 14 years. I would like to be able to work and live here (on my own regardless of what happens to my parents' status whom were both born in Canada as well, but do not have official green cards). I am wondering what steps to take. What applications should I apply for? I don't necessarily want or need a full green card. I just want to be able to live in the U.S. and work here regardless of what happens to my parents. If anyone has any advice or information I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Are you and your parents in the US illegally? I'm really not sure what your recourse would be, you may want to speak with an immigration lawyer if you can.

No, my dad and i are living in the U.S. legally. My visa has been renewed and it's good until April. I just want to get my own visa so that it doesn't depend on my dad's (mine depends on my dad's, i don't know the details behind that).

Well, what type of visa do you and your parents currently have? Your first post kinda threw me when you said you do not have "official green cards". AFAIK, there is no such thing as an "unofficial" green card.
