Resume Vs. CV

Post Tue Oct 25, 2011 8:01 am

Interested to know how you have got on with creating a CV to meet the expectations of the UK employers.

Have you spent time in job centres reformatting your resume/covering letter to CV?

I have a feeling this is going to be a tough one for me because I have never been expected to keep track of this sort of information and I have been in this field for 12+ yrs.

My husband used to hold a managers position in the UK (before moving to Canada), so he has had alot of experiences with them, but his were always geared towards IT/Web Design etc and I have a background in Social Service Work which proved to be a challenge for us when he had to reformat his to meet Canadian expectations. There is nothing on his that I could ever apply to mine and vice versa.

I figure that I have to put the work in to meet their expectations or I am at risk of being unemployed for much longer... all of my qualifications etc will already act as a strike against me because it will look so foreign, so I am hoping to get some input from others.

Thanks!
Dying 2 get back 2 England.

Your are correct to be concern about what UK employers typically expect, so my advice would be to search for UK CV examples, like I did:

But as to your "foreign" experience, I would think this would be an asset. Besides, you're not going to lie, are you?

It should really only be a format change.
