Retire and live in Italy

Retire and live in Italy

Postby linlowabroad » Thu Jan 14, 2010 5:42 am

I am going to retire in 2-3 years and am considering retiring and living in Italy if possible. Any comments from Canadians living in Italy would be appreciated (Pros/Cons)

I am a Canadian living in Cyprus but I am Italian from Venice. I would say to you that Italy can be a wonderful place to live if you realise certain things. It will take a long time for you to ever get services like telephone repair, electrical repairs, etc..so you must be patient. If you treat your life like one long vacation and do not stress out about being a resident in a poorly functioning country, you will be alright. You must adopt the Italian way of life. Socialise, rest, visit people, walk alot every night, take life as a bowl of candy to be enjoyed every day. Also, make sure to drive to other cities and into Austria, France, Germany, Switzerland so that you can see other cultures and then return to Italy with a new appreciation. It is possible. Write me back and I will help you with my advice. Roberto B.
