Return Tickets

Post Thu Apr 13, 2006 7:38 am

Hey guys,
So I am going to Hungary but I wasn't planning on getting my return ticket until I was there and ready to leave, but I have been hearing that they wont even let me stay in the country unless I have a return ticket.. does anybody know if this is true for Hungary? If it is I will have to get an open end return ticket, correct? Thanks!
Not here for a long time, just here for a good time.

That's not necessarily true. They probably don't care. Trust me, Hungarian record keeping is shoddy at best. If they ask any questions, which they probably won't, then just tell them you're travelling around Europe and won't be departing from Hungary. Plenty of backpackers do that.

One thing though - tickets bought in hungary are expensive. It's usually much better to buy a return ticket in Canada and just make sure you can change it later on. That's what I always do. Buy a ticket with a return date a year later, and then change it when I'm ready to leave. It usually costs and extra $100 but it's worth it for the flexibility. Try travel cuts for a ticket - they got me an awesome deal on my last flight!

CanuckAbroad,

You seem to know Hungary well, are they strict about visas for extended stays. Looking to visit for a long time without a visa. Any advise?
