return to canada-issues to consider

Hello

We may return to Canada soon and am looking at issues one must take care of before returning. Health care and taxes are some. Any ideas ?

For healthcare, depending on Prov, you are either re-instated immediately, or in BC, ON, and NB after 3 months (which is probably illegal, but why fight it). So for those 3 provs you'll need to have private healthcare (probably by extending your work covergae thru COBRA).

For taxes, you need to think about making sure you get all income items before you return rather than after. This includes rolling over as much 401(k)/IRA. etc, into a Roth, befoe resuming Cdn residency, in oder to avoid future taxation in eithr uS or Canada.
