In 2003 I left Canada for US, breaking my ties as indicated by my accountant. I did not file a Canadian tax return in 2004. In 2005 I was forced to return to Canada (pregnant and suddenly single) and began working immediately.

When I applied for the Canadian Child Tax Benefit, they sent a letter indicating that there records show I am not a resident of Canada. I have filed 05, 06, and 07.

How do I reinstated my residence status. I am a Canadian Citizen.

Any info would be great.

Did you state on your 2005 return that you had re-entered Canada? There's a checkbox on the first page of the return.

If you didn't you can just get hold of the non-resident tax dept. in Ottawa and tell them to amend your return. They might make you fill in an adjustment form.
