Returning after 6 years

Hello all.

I have been teaching in Asia for the last 6 years and have decided to return with my wife and live permanently in Canada. I have my family located in Victoria BC and we're looking for a place to rent, probably for a couple years, on our return. I'm hoping to find someone who knows the difficulties associated with re-integrating and would perhaps be a little more flexible in their acceptance criteria for renters.

We're both quiet (relatively ), non-smoking individuals over 30. We don't mind a lower level suite, and I am very capable, able to perform many household repairs, car repairs etc. I have previously owned my own house before coming over here and understand perfectly all the problems that can be associated with bad renters. I had my share. The only real issue I think that will happen is that we have animals. Quite a few by most people's standards. We have 3 dogs (2 smaller and one medium) and 4 cats (all short hair) due to the conditions that most domestic animals suffer over here, it has been very difficult to not take in more to be honest. We have had to say no to ourselves on more than one heart-breaking occasion. I'm hoping that the people here will have the experience of this as well and can understand a little better the rationale behind accumulating such a large brood! All our animals are at least a year old, the oldest being 5 years old and all are used to living in an apartment of about 1400 sq. ft. The dogs are fully house-trained, being used to going out a couple times a day for bathroom duties.

We're looking for a place for August that is out of the city but still within a 30 or 40 minute drive (West, East or Central Saanich are all fine) with 2 bedrooms (I have a 9yr. old girl who will visit on weekends) preferably with a fireplace or woodstove. I am willing to negotiate on rent as I have many abilities which can be useful to a homeowner and don't mind doing extra work to help out.
