Returning L1B

Post Mon Nov 14, 2011 3:23 pm

I have recently left a company and have a L1B visa that I used on occasion to do work in the US. Should I be making a special trip to the airport to return it?

I will likely be wanting a new visa (TN) with a different company shortly. Will my previous L1B cause any issues in doing this? If I don't return the L1B before the day I apply for the TN will this create issues?

Thanks

Not really a problem, but, as written on your I-94, you were supposed to hand that to a Cdn customs agent when you left.

But as long as you're I-94 is not expired, you won't be in trouble for having kept it, but do return it.

I've never quite understood returning the I-94 when leaving. Maybe it's because I've typically done service/support type work that required last minute trips rather then working for a company on a permanent type basis. I've had 6 or so work visa's and only once did I know when coming back to Canada that I wouldn't be heading back to US.

I-94s are not designed as multiple entry, thus the instructions to hand back. Technicall, you could have given back the I-94 every time you left if you wished, and get a new one on each entry.

But, now that you have it, you need to return it.
