You would still need to file a tax return for 2008 tax year, as you had income in that year. On your return you can notify CRC that you are no longer resident.

No this will not make it more difficult to repatriate in 10 years (or even in 1 year) time. it will actually make it easier, because you don't want to somehow be found responsible for 10 years back taxes when you return!

I worked in Canada for a few years before returning to school, then I left Canada a student. This was about 10 years ago. As a student, I do not remember when I last file T1.

Any advice on what next to do?
