Right of Abode/Cert of Entitlement Question!

Right of Abode/Cert of Entitlement Question!

Postby beek_rocknking » Mon Jun 22, 2009 3:21 pm

Hey everyone,

What a helpful place this is for us hosers!

I have a question regarding Right of Abode:

If I go to the UK using my current Canadian Passport to get in, can I apply for and recieve my certificate of entitlement sticker on my Cdn passport while I am in the UK, from their embassy offices over there?? Also, if this is possible, how long will it take to get when I am over there??

My mom was born in England, is currently still a citizen there, and I was born in 1985.

I've tried calling several border/embassy numbers and haven't gotten a straight answer on this. Any one that knows please let me know!

thnx

You apply throught the UK Boarder agency. As long as you have your longform birth certificate and your supporting documents (parents birth certificates etc... depending on how you qualify)I am in the midst of applying (sending off this week) and hoping to get back sooner the the 6months they say it can take up to. All the info I have read says the up to 6 months is for Citizenship.

I am going to try and make a few calls today so if I get any more news I will let you know.

Good Luck

Hi,

I'm so confused by all the information that is out there. Can anyone help me? I want to live/ work in UK and all around Europe for at least a year and work while I'm there.

Family history:
My mother was born in England and only recently received her CDN citizenship after being a landed immigrant for all my life.

My paternal Grandparents were both born in the UK. I have copies of their birth, death and marriage certs.

I have heard I can apply for a Right to Bode certificate that would allow me to live and work in the UK but I'm not sure if this is true.

I'm under 35 and I know some countries allow me to apply as Youth Exchange Working Holiday visa...or something like that. I have already tried France but the appointments for applying are hard to come by.

I really want to leave in a few months... help : )
