Right of Abode - Settlement or Non-settlement?

Hi Everyone! Just curious to know if anyone has seen anything on whether a Right to Abode is considered settlement in the UK? or Non-settlement? I ask because I received word that my application go...

Hi Everyone!

Just curious to know if anyone has seen anything on whether a Right to Abode is considered settlement in the UK? or Non-settlement? I ask because I received word that my application got to the High Commission on Tuesday morning, first thing, and still haven't heard anything back. I know I have today and monday to wait before 5 days is up (the proposed waiting time for regular applications), but with so many stories of people getting their visas processed in a day, I'm getting a bit anxious to hear back! Any insight is helpful!

Hi Guys,

Is there anyone on here that has applied for Right of Abode in the past? It has now been over 5 days since my application has been received and I still haven't heard anything. I'm now wondering if Right of Abode falls under 'Settlement' and takes longer to process. Any ideas?

I bit the bullet and paid to phone - Right of Abode takes 12 weeks.

Wooohooo! I got my Right of Abode! In the end, it WAS processed in 5 days - But I never got an email confirming if I had been approved or not - it just showed up!

I guess that's just something to be wary of, is when you are phoning WorldBridge, they may not always provide accurate information specific to your case. In the end, they are a company contracted out to provide service for handling inquiries into applications, so there is a higher possibility of this happening.

I had initially phoned the UK Border agency about Right of abode and was told 5 days to process, and then after applying and not hearing anything after 6 days, phoned Worldbridge who told me it would take 12 weeks. They even double-checked. I had also emailed an inquiry the same day, which came back after one week, that said it would take up to 6 months if my application needed to go to London.

All in all, my advice to anyone else considering this application is that while there are far far fewer things required to send, it seems to be a means of entry into the UK that has limited information on it, and to phone the Border Agency with any questions you may have. I phoned in the evening, their time, and got through right away, and found them very helpful.

Lynndyhop: Glad to see your documents came so quickly.Exactly what documents did you need to send in? I am very interested in this process and believe I could qualify. Any info would help. Thank you.

Hi Chubber,

For my situation, all I needed was:

-My birth certificate (long form)
-My dad's birth certificate (he was born in the UK, so applying through him)
-My parent's marriage certificate (to proove that my parents were married at the time of my birth
-Application form printed
-Fee
-Passport
-Picture

That's it! Of course different situations would warrant different documents. Check here: http://www.britishhighcommission.gov.uk/servlet...cid=1109169943562 No biometrics, no proving you can work or where you are going to live! I'm still not clear on the wait time. One person told me 5 days, another told me 12 weeks, and an email response told me up to 6 months. I got it back after 3 weeks (1 week to ship there, 1 to process and 1 week to send back).
