Right to Abode for husband?

Post Fri Mar 25, 2011 10:03 am

It has been very frustrating trying to find about an answer to this question and I am hoping someone out there can help!

I have dual Brit/Canadian citizenship. In September I am returning to work in the UK on a teacher exchange for the year.

The last time I lived there was in the mid 80's and my husband had right to abode and worked for Cheshire County Council as a social worker for 3 years.

I cannot find out anywhere if he can have this status again. It seems rules have maybe changed. If when we enter the UK can he get this there actaully at Immigration Control?

It is impossible to speak to any Worldbridge/Consulate advisor about this.

Chances are your husband still has a right of abode in the UK as it's not something that can be lost unless he gained it through marriage and this marriage dosen't subsist anymore. However, if he doesn't have his certificate of entitlement anymore, he may have to apply for a new one.

For more information and to know if he still has the right of abode, he can call the following number: +44 0 845 010 5200.
