Rooming Houses and Insurance In Sydney

Hi All,
I'm moving from Toronto to Sydney in January on a WHV. I'm on a budget, so I really only want to get a simple, sparely furnished room in Sydney. Is there a site where I can find places like this?

Also, I'll also be traveling through Asia and NZ over the year, so I'm looking for all-inclusive travel insurance, as well. Does anybody have any advice on this?

Lastly, how long does it take to have a WHV issued?
