RRQ - Québec Pension Plan

Postby fephoo » Wed Apr 29, 2009 5:39 pm

I live and work in Canada since 6 years, and will be soon a Canadian citizen. in the future, I plan to go live in the US and might not come back to Canada. Will I lose RRQ money for retirement time ?

No, Québec has a totalization agreement with the US, or alternatively you can claim the benefits separately.

My spouse and I are moving from Montreal Quebec Canada to the UK. Is there a problem in transferring Quebec pension plan to UK pension plan. How do we transfer it? What do you recommend we do?
Thanks in advance for your input.

There is no "transfer". You will collect QPP based on your Cdn work history alone, when the time comes.

You will now begin building your UK pension. The time spent in canada (not strictly the contributions made to CPP/QPP) may be used to determine any future UK pension entitlements.

If you are eligible for OAS based on having lived for more than 10 years as an adult in canada, you will get this amount from canada, and it will be factored into your UK pension.

None of this requires any action on your part until you approach retirment age.
