I'm wondering if I HAVE to have a flight booked when I apply for my Settlement Visa application. It states on britainincanada that you shouldn't buy a non-refundable ticket to prevent losing the money if the visa doesn't get accepted. It also says that I have to travel within 28 days of the visa being issued. Could I just purchase the flight when I get my application accepted or should I purchase it before I send in my paperwork and show them the proof?

Side question, can I just purchase a one way ticket vs. a return flight?

Thanks!

If someone could help me out before this weekend that would be greatly appreciated because I have my biometrics appointment on Monday. Thanks!

Hi,

I didn't provide my flight information when I was in last week doing my biometrics - and it wasn't asked for either.

You may find that it is cheaper to get a return flight and not use the return portion of the flight. When we were doing research it was cheaper to get a return flight than a one way flight.

Do the research on the flights, go all the way through to find out your final cost--sometimes a one way flight is cheaper, sometimes a round trip (and not using the return) is cheaper. It varies. Sometimes it even depends WHEN your return flight is, so look at that as well. Try booking it for a 'cheap fly' time. so. not in the middle of the summer or any major events, for example.

Also, one way flights (depending who you're flying with) usually have the ability to change the date of your ticket without losing money, or just refunding back your money (it's a useful tidbit from certain carriers BECAUSE of it being a one-way flight).

That's it, really. I don't think it matters if you ticket is already booked, if you can get it refunded. It's really up to you whether you purchase a ticket or not--just be sure it IS refundable!

I've recieved conflicting advice on this really. for my WHM they required I book my flight at time of application and for my ancestry visa I was advised not to.

Granted I aquired my WHM visa through a work abroad program at uni so that might have been part of it.

You can only do what you think is best. If you want to delay I'm relatively sure that you'll be able to get a flight.

Or better yet maybe get travel insurance which covers the cost of the ticket should you have to cancel for whatever reason. Just make certain you understand the terms of your insurance. Smile
