Hey folks,

Just wondering if anyone here has any experience or advice in shipping your stuff back home or in getting a tax rebate from Inland Revenue.

I've looked in TNT for some companies, had a look on their websites, etc. Just wondering if anyone has had any good/bad experiences.

Cheers,

Hey,

I posted a really large suitcase, a carry on size suitcase and two medium size boxes from Cardiff to Toronto in June. Whew, I managed to accumulate a lot of stuff after living in Wales for three years.

I went to the post office to see what options they had for shipping the stuff, and they said it was probably cheapest to go through them. I did a bit of checking, and this did seem to be the case. Courier companies seemed very expensive. I think I ended up paying about 300 pounds to ship everything home using the company Royal Mail provides, which is Parcelforce. That’s still pretty expensive, but was the cheapest option in the end.

The only issue I had with shipping things home was that it took a very long time to get everything, about a month longer than what I had been quoted at the post office. However, this may have been due to the terrorist issues at Heathrow airport and basic security measures that had been increased over the summer.

Not sure if there are better options out there. Anyone have any ideas?

Afraid I did the same when I was moving from Montreal to Manchester. Used Canada Post and send one large box (winter clothes & momentos that were'nt a rush to get) by the lan service, remember it cost me a fair amount of money but can't recall how much or what the weight was. The rest was packed into 2 large suitcases & 1 carry on with me on the flight, had to pay extra at the check in for one of the suitcases as it was just over the maximum weight, think it was like $150 CAD extra! Surprised

The large cardboard box arrived in one peice (didnt pack breakables!) about a month after my arrival in the UK & was good timing. We had just moved into our first rented house from cramped accomodation living with partners parents. Considering I had sent it 2 days before my flight left, all in all not too long to arrive.

I had contacted various shipping companies prior but they all seemed very expensive considering I wasn't planning on taking along very much with me.
