Shipping Car between US and Canada.

Postby kerogenki » Mon Dec 07, 2009 12:04 pm

Hello all,

I'm having a hard time finding the exact information I'm looking for. What I need to know is this ....

I'm a Canadian with a place in Florida that I go to a few times a year. We're thinking of purchasing a car in FL and are wondering if its possible to ship (not drive) the car back and forth (I know its possible to have it transported but I can't find the exact rules of doing this), between FL and Toronto, so its in FL to drive when we're there and its here in Toronto to drive when we're here.

The car would have US plates and insurace. Can a permanent resident of Canada drive a US plated car with US insurance in Canada? Do the RIV "rules" pertain to the car if the car isn't permanently going to be in Canada?

I've been able to find info about getting a car from US to Canada or the other way around, but can't find anythig specifically about going back and forth over and over again.

Help!! anyone please!!

Thanks.

You will need to import and plate the car in canada, since you live there. Once that is done, you can travel back and forth just like with your current Cdn car.
