shipping luggage

Can any recommend a a company to go with in order to ship luggage to the UK? I am shipping 2 large (very large) suitcases and was looking for a reputable company.

I just used the normal post offices.

Sent several boxes from Canada to the UK. Ended up in possession of the Parcel Force over here.

Problem with Parcel Force is that they often don't leave a notice card if they attempt a delivery when you're not around.

I didn't hear a peep for ages, so finally I took the initiative to call Parcel Force myself. Sure enough, several of my boxes were there. They had tried on several occasions (M-F, 9-5) to deliver them, despite that I work during the day. British companies don't seem to understand that most people work 9-5 (but that's a whole other rant).

Problem was they never bothered to leave a notice card that they'd made attempts. Had I not called the Parcel Force myself, all my boxes would have been sent back to Canada.

Well, it turns out one box was indeed sent back to Canada. I'm currently in the process of demanding Parcel Force pay me the CAD$68 it cost me to ship it out here, since they never bothered to tell me it was here. They are USELESS!

I recommend putting your email address and your UK phone number (if you already have one) on the box somewhere, if you plan to use the Post Office / Parcel Force.

I too have experienced the crap service of the above named company. I refer to them as Postal Farce.

I can ship suitcases over to the UK? I am so happy that this thread was created before I left! You have no idea what trauma I was going through wondering how to get a lot of my stuff over there.

Do you ever have to pay any duty on what you send? And does it all seem to arrive in tact?

When I moved over here, I brought two huge suitcases and was way over the baggage allowance limit. However, the man at the Air Canada check in was quite chatty and waved my visa card away when I told him I was definitely over the limit.

That is one thing I LOVE about Air Canada. They never charge me overweight for my bags. I am leaving a suitcase full of clothes for my mother to bring over with her just for that reason. Air Canada is wonderful.

I usually fly charters to the Caribbean for Christmas as my father lives there. .and last Christmas they had my brother and I unpack our suitcases until they were the proper weight limit, rather than accept money for overweight. We had to FedEx all of the Christmas gifts down.

Perhaps I will pack my bags a little bit more on this trip to London

I always used Air Canada Cargo and used them to move from Quebec to here as well.

Do you find Air Canada Cargo expensive? My Mom and I wanted to use them to ship my stuff over, but I phoned up to ask for a guesstimate on shipping price and he asked me weight and dimension and quoted me over $475 for one small box! I am hoping he had no idea what he was doing...

I shipped 36 cases!

And sometimes when I slept at heathrow (don't ask..) I'd have my luggage shipped in advance cuz I couldn't be bothered carrying it..

One thing:
Airlines ship by weight, boats by volume.
Look in the yellow pages and see what fits best!

I would suggest you to go to the ship yard and ask for it so that it would be more clear than posting here..
