Hi There, my boyfriend and I (He is an Aussie citizen, I am a CDN citizen) are planning on moving to Melbourne in June '08 permanently from Edmonton. We are selling all of our furniture and large items before we leave, but we do need to ship clothes, shoes, and other small items. We were planning on shipping everything in trunks. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to ship the trunks down? Canada Post? Or other means? Any advice would be great!

Hi Smashy,
As I read your post I realized it sounded familiar. There have been a few people with the same question in the last year or so. You should refer to a post by Amber and Chris from Oct 12, 2006. Several people gave them a round of advice. You could probably private message them and find out what they actually did.
When I moved overseas, I just bought some U-Haul moving boxes (they are super light and strong) and packed those to the brim. I made sure to tie them up solidly with string. With some wraps of this massive saran wrap stuff at the airport, they even endured the return trip. It was everything I would need for two years other than furniture and electrical appliances. Each box was 70 lbs. Now I think the limit is 50 lbs (perhaps depending on your airline), but that is still 200lbs of baggage between the two of you. Have friends and family come to visit you and they can bring all the "other stuff"!
Blessings on you prepare to go,
Allyssa

We used Bekin's worlwide moving out of Vancouver but I am sure they do pick up in Edmonton. It is a door to door service and they had the cheapest rate we could find to move a small amount of stuff. Cost was $1000 and that is quite a large amount.we took 27 small standard boxes and still could have taken more for that price.Good luck with your move!

What about shipping large items like a bed and a couch? The company I will be working for will pay shipping up to 12,000AU.I am just trying to figure out if it is worth shipping these items. I just bought the couch recently and I love it, and my bed is handmade. Any suggestions? Some shipping company names would be handy. Thanx
