Shipping TV abroad - power conversion

Post Fri Nov 04, 2011 10:46 am

Hi,

I know this is a Canadian forum - I am a Brit who has just moved to Toronto, so far so good!

We shipped our furniture over and planned to buy converters for our two TV's.

However we have found out only one can be converted, therefore we have a great TV that can't be used in Canada.

I was wondering if anyone is shipping their furniture to England and worried about encountering the same problem when they reach England and would like to TV swap?

My TV is a new Sony Bravia HD ready 26 inch. It can be mounted on a wall or free standing.

Also if anyone has questions about England I'd be more than happy to answer them, I worked in banking and could help if anyone has questions about accounts or the UK banking system.

Thanks for reading! :D

Hi NewtoTO,
Hope you are settling nicely. I would recommend going to The Source for a converter so that you can use your TV in Canada and not have it go to waste. I suspect the cost to ship a TV that size is probably about the same as buying one these day!

I have a link in my post here to the converter section at The Source: http://bluenosegirl.com/packing-should-i-bring-it/

Hope that helps.

Hi,

Thank you for your help.

Our plan was to buy converters for both of our TV's, however only one could be converted using a converter we bought from The Source.

We have found out this is because we have to convert the power from 220 to 110 which isn't a problem, however it also needs a frequency converter. If you try and convert both you could risk damaging the TV. As you mentioned shipping it back to England on it's own is far too expensive, therefore we're looking to see if anyone is anticipating the same problem with their Canadian TV here and would like to swap so they have a TV that works in England if you are due to move.

It's an inventive idea but I figured there may be someone out there...

:D
