Short-term housing in Brisbane - Canadians needing advice!

Post Sun Jan 01, 2012 4:11 pm

Hello,

My wife and I will be working in Brisbane for a short time: Mid February to mid May 2012.

We are homeowners in Burlington, ON, Canada. My wife is a pediatric nurse and will be doing some work at the Royal Children's Hospital. I will be on academic exchange at the UQ/PA Hospital.

We are exited for our stay but are having trouble finding housing. The rental market seems to be geared toward long-stay contracts and Gumtree adds are closed off to non-residents.

Wondering if folks have any tips? ... we are hoping for a furnished apartment or house share somewhere convenient to transit/CBD. The more utilities that are included, the better.

Also, how critical is aircon from February to May?

Many thanks,
Andrew

Hi. I hope you enjoy your stay in Brisbane. My partner & I have stayed at Central Brunswick Apartments on several occasions while holidaying in Oz.

I tried to post a link to Central Brunswick Apartment Hotel but this site rejected it as spam. You'll have to look for it on Google.

I don't know what you would consider a reasonable rate but they do have long-term rates, ie by the month etc. We liked the proximity to everything including places to eat out or to buy food to cook at the apartment. They are air-conditioned. There is a super Italian Pizza place, very reasonably priced, just across the courtyard with BYO or they serve drinks. There's also a bottle shop, Tapas bar, Mexican restaurant and more upscale eateries and bars right there. I haven't been there for a while so cannot be sure exactly what's available right there, now. It's within a block of the Brunswick street eatery strip, a section of the street blocked to traffic, with sidewalk cafes, pub lunches etc.

Hope that helps......
