Should a TN applicant have a permanent address in Canada?

Post Sat Dec 20, 2008 12:13 pm

Hey there,

I have a job from which I'll be fired if I don't return back in ONE year.
My entire family lives outside the US.
My car, assets, are all outside the US.
My permanent address is outside the US.

... problem is, none of this is in Canada. We moved out about 10 years ago. Now I'll be applying next week for a TN status for one year in the US as a Canadian citizen. I have many things pulling me back from the US after the TN expires in a year, but will the lack of a permanent Canadian address, and job affect my TN application?

It shouldn't. You only have to prove that you Do Not have immigrant intent to the US. I don't think it matters where your residential ties are, as long as they're not the States.

As Reba mentioned it should not matter since you can show ties to a place outside of the U.S. Since you can show that all your family and assets are outside the U.S., you can prove you have non-immigrant intent.

Good Luck!
