I thought only Canadian citizens could act as a guarantor for a new passport. Is that the case, or were you able to use someone in the UK? While we're on the topic, can someone give me the 411 on getting a new Canadian passport while in the USA. I'm in the Chicago area and mine will expire next year. Am I right that I'll have to make a trip to Canada to have the app and photos signed?

I counted as a Canadian citizen already because I was born in Canada. I got my forms from the Canadian embassy in London. I had to get two people to vouch for having known me over two years.but actually they never did check up with them.
However, I then had to take all my completed documents to my solicitor and get him to sign and vouch for me.
For your question, I'm not much help, except surely you can get forms/info from nearest Embassy, like I did?
