Should I bother to date in the US if I'm here temporarily?

Post Mon Sep 07, 2009 4:03 am

This is soooo frusturating!! I know I'm only here temporary but I miss dating so much. When I meet guys and tell them I'm only planning on staying here temporarily it gets complicated! One guy suggested moving back with me!!

If you're on a TN visa or something similar.. how do you deal with the whole dating stuff? Do you even bother? I tried just dating casually but that just always ends badly :doubt: I broke a few hearts LOL

Why wouldn't you date? Does every date have the potential to lead to marriage? no. If you met someone that is "The One" would you not marry them because you're on a TN?

Totally up to you of course, but life does happen. Sometimes without us even noticing it.

Yeah, I already met 2 guys that could have been "the one" but I was able to just tell them there was no future.. and one left me and another told me he'd move for me. But, then he started to try to convince me to stay and so him saying he'd "move for me" was just BS to try to get me to stay w him..

Life does happen.. but I guess I'm just really REALLY good at controlling the direction my life goes in. I gotta go with the flow more eh? lol I kinda don't like that approach to life but yeah it happens eventually I'm sure.. I already have a ton of amazing friends and favorite restaurants. It's gonna be hard to leave!

Why bother taking the chance of living in a foreign country for a year if you're not going to Live while you're there?

You can stay, he can move. Doesn't matter in the end does it if the one you find is The One and you're together.

you're on a work visa, not doing time in jail lol Of course you should date. It really does sound like you like to plan and control life, maybe a little too much? You really have to go with the flow in life.

I'm here for 3 years, in my 20's (ie., the prime of my life) and there's no way I'm not dating lol That's ridiculous. No relationship is ever serious in the beginning anyway, you have to get to know someone and that takes time. Just go out, meet people and have fun. If love happens, then you can figure it out. And easily.

If you want to move back home once your assignment is over, then I'm sure there are a lot of men who'd move for you. And who knows, you might really like living in the USA and staying for love wont be a huge comprise.

There are no guarantees in life, ever. You could be married and your spouse could announce one day its over. Not to sound pessimistic, but I'm just saying lol Stranger things have happened. You simply cannot plan and control everything.

So by all means, DATE! It sounds like you're outgoing and enjoy meeting people. You're in a foreign country, so get to know it. And that does comes through getting to know its native inhabitants

Wow a non-legal question! I wouldn't worry about it too much, if it turns serious get married and apply for AOS. Or alternatively he moves back to Canada with you, Canada recognizes common-law marriages unlike the US. Where it's usually a problem is when neither of you are US citizens.
