Small business

Postby kimberlite » Thu May 21, 2009 1:34 am

Just wondering if anyone has dealt with a similar situation.

I am a Canadian in the UK on a spousal dependent visa. I am permitted to work and have begun a small party plan type business. I'm not making any money yet, it's more of a hobby. We have not given up residency in Canada, and still pay our taxes there.
My question is in regards to my business, do I need to register it in the UK? Do I need to pay taxes in the Uk since it's a business in the UK?
My hubby and I disagree on how to deal with it, and we can't find sufficient information, so hoping someone will have some advice.

Thanks so much!

Normally you would only pay your Canadian tax on revenues that you earn in Canada (eg: interests earned on savings, house that you rent,etc..)...I assume that you pay your UK employer UK taxes (pay as you earn)....?

Thanks to gave great information!!!!!!
People need to stay home and raise a family is a key reason this choice is regularly made. Also, people starting up in their own businesses often choose to work from home because it provides a cheaper option.
