Snowbirds in Florida

Post Tue Jun 21, 2011 10:48 am

We recently purchased a condo in Florida and plan to spend just under 6 months there every winter. We will either drive down every winter or possibly leave our Manitoba car there all year and fly. Our provincial vehicle insurance (MPI) says no problem provided there are no state laws preventing us from doing so. Unfortunately Florida DMV regulations state that... 'any person who has a vehicle in Florida for more than 90 days during a 365-day period must purchase personal injury protection and property damage liability insurance coverage'. This would require us to register and licience the vehicle in Florida.
Has anyone run into this problem???
