So confused about Visas

Post Mon Dec 05, 2011 9:54 am

Hi,
I need some help figuring out what type of visa/work permit I need (or if I even need one).

I'm a Canadian citizen and resident. I am in talks for a secondment in England next year. While on secondment, I would continue to be paid by my Canadian company, who would invoice the UK company for salary and expenses. It would be for three months, with a possible extension to six months (but I would return to Canada in the middle if it was extended).

I do not have UK ancestry nor am I under 30. Although organised through work, it is not an inter-company transfer - these are two separate companies (just do similar things).

So, since I wouldn't technically be on the payroll of the UK company (though they are covering my salary and expenses), do I even need anything? If so, what do I need?

No one I work with in either company has been part of secondments before, so they don't know. I'm assuming that I can find someone within the company who would know, but thought I'd start investigating on my own.

Thanks

If the UK company providing the secondment have a contract to provide goods or services (but no corporate relationship) with your overseas employer and that your Canadian employer continues to pay you, you may be eligible for a business visitor visa provided you meet the requirements. The visa would be valid for 6 months.
