I'm a Canadian Citizen, and filled out forms I-765 Application for Employment Authorization, as well as the I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status - there were other forms as well but I don't think they play any role in my question.

I married a US Citizen, filled out all my paperwork and finally got my EAD. I did a little research and the USCIS site doesn't tell me much. but a few google results told me that I needed a SSN as well. Does anyone know if I need to apply for one before I start working? The letter that came with the card didn't mention it, and I'd like to start applying for jobs right away. I'm sure a SSN doesn't come fast!

Thanks!

You will definitely need to apply for an SSN. Go to your local SSA office and fill out the forms and they'll send you the card once they confirm your immigration status. Mine only took a week to be mailed to me.

Oh darn, I was hoping I wouldn't have to do anymore paperwork haha. That's not a bad wait though! Smile

If anyone is familiar with the Graduated Drivers Licensing they have in Alberta, do you know if having a GDL on my license would make it difficult for me to get a regular drivers license here (Oregon)? I don't really have the option to go back in Alberta to take the advanced test.

recommend you print it off and fill it out prior getting to the office!
