So who else saw The Hip?

My wife (English) and I just got back from the Hip gig in London, anyone else go? Is it just us (well and the few English people stood around us) or are The Hip really boring live? I mean, don't...

I mean, don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of their music, heck I paid £75 for a jersey last gig, but in watching them again, they just have no stage presence.

Gord Downie tries to carry the show on his own, but the other 2 guitarists and bass player just look, well, bored.

I am wondering if this is why they never made it outside of Canada. we saw the Barenaked Ladies, whom I think have weaker songs, last year in Birmingham, and WOW, that was entertaining. but The Hip. zzzzzzz

Anyone else notice this?

Aww Scootter- that's too bad! Sad

Blue Rodeo put on a great show here. I haven't seen BNL in the UK, but have seen them 3 times in North America and they always put on a great show.

Oh don't get me wrong, the music was great, they just have very little stage presence.

Besides, my wife and I met at their last gig in London in 2002, so they will always be great to us. Smile

Well I've never seen them before live and I'm not really a live music guru but I thought they were great! Who cares what the guitarists are doing when Gord is jumping around all over the place. I would have liked to have seen a bit of banter with the crowd. he hardly spoke really. But I was happy with it!

True, he did move about, I think he would have benefited from a different stage layout with more room to leap about, but my wife has played that venue with her band and tells me it is a tiny stage.

I am no live music guru either, by any stretch of the imagination, I was just dissapointed to see and speak to so many bored English folks.

It would be nice to have The Hip be a bit more internationally known. ah well, you are right, in the end a decent show.

Smile
