Hi!
I am currently a canadian citizen and my fiance lives down in Maine goin to school down there on a hockey scholarship. After school he plans on playin down in the states and hopes for me to come down as soon as possible to live with him for a few years. He has two years left of school and is hoping for me to move down there soon, but i dont know exactly what it is i need to go about to live down in the states with him. Is there anybody out there who can give me some advice of what steps i need to take to get to my heart down in maine? I would greatly appreciate it, like you wouldnt even imagine. Thank you!

Hi there,

Judging from what you telling me I get the feeling he's Canadian too? You have to talk to someone who deals with immigration in America, but I get the feeling that since you're not married the choices may be limited. You can try checking out websites that have information on the different visas like here: http://www.usimmigrationsupport.org/

I know from a friend who did manage to move to the US that getting into the US from Canada isn't easy unless you're marrying an American or married to someone who is working in America. That may be the only solution for you if he is offered work in the US. Something to think about.

Wish you all the luck.

If you want to go down and visit him for 6 months that is fine. You can visit for 6 months in one calender year. However, you will not be able to work or live there permanently. If he is not American, you don't even have the choice to get married there and apply for a green card that way. The only way you can live there and work there conditionally for awhile is if you apply for a work VISA. you must be offered a job first before you get a visa.you can see how hard this is? I just married an american and believe me, you don't wanna do this if it's not necessary.
