Son in the US for 2 years wants to come back

Good day

My son has been in the States for 2 years. He has a wife (American citizen), a 6 months old baby that was born in US and he wants to return to Canada with the family and ask Canadian citenzenship for them. He has no US citenzenship papers, he never applied for them. So by law he his illegally in the US.
Should he apply for his US citenzenship before he comes back to Quebec? Do you have any advice for me. I'm a mother that want her son back lol.. but I want to make sure that everything will be ok.

He is a long way from getting US citiozenship, and his wife would have to file lots of paperwork (if she even legally could) and then he would have to wait about 3.5 years before he could get citizenship. in any event that would be something they would have to speak to a US immigration lawyer about, since he is illegal, especially if he has also worked illegally. He may simply be disqualified form even trying for US citizenship for many year at this point.

As to coming to Canada, his son is a Cdn citizen, so it would just be matter of sponsoring his wife for PR status. there are website out there devoted to Cdn immigration, which someone lse might post here.
